Fiba 3×3 U23 World Cup: Philippines racks up 2 wins but fails to enter quarters

The Philippines put up a valiant stand with wins over Turkmenistan and China Friday but missed the cut for the next round of competition in the Fiba 3×3 U23 World Cup in Xi’an, China.

The 19th-ranked Filipinos scored an impressive victory over no.14 team Turkmenistan, 21-8, and an upset over no.3 team China, 21-15 after coming up empty-handed last Wednesday.

Despite the wins, the Philippines finished third in Pool C with a 2-2 record behind China and Slovenia, which willadvance to the next round.

Only top two teams in each bracket will move on to the quarterfinals.

Rhon Jay Abarrientos finished as the Philippines’ top scorer with a total of 27 points across all four games while Ricci Rivero compiled 25.
