Ateneo forced a deciding set and Kat Tolentino took it from there, leading the Lady Eagles to a 25-21, 17-25, 19-25, 25-14, 15-7 victory over the PetroGazz Angels for their second straight win in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Open Conference at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan Saturday.
Coming off a long break, Ateneo rallied from eight points down to clinch the opening frame before losing the next two sets.
But the Lady Eagles refocused, clobbering the Angels in the fourth behind Maddie Madayag and rookie Vanessa Gandler before Tolentino stepped up to anchor the team’s four straight hits in the fifth that gave them a 6-2 upperhand.
Another Tolentino hit kept the Lady Eagles on top in the changeover, 8-4.
Madayag wound up with 13 attack points for 16 hits while scoring 13 kills blocks.
“I guess we fought really hard. We trusted each other and followed coach (Oliver Almadro),” said Madayag.
Tolentino added 24 points.
BanKo-Perlas showed no signs of slowing down, beating Adamson-Akari, 25-20, 19-25, 25-22, 25-16, to stretch its win run to three, three days after taking the bronze in the Vinh Long Cup in Vietnam.
