Once a shell of himself at La Salle, Larry Muyang’s move to Letran has brought the best out of him.
And the stocky big man, who is making a name for himself in only his first year for the Knights in the NCAA Season, 94 has the people around him to thank for his success.
“Coach Jeff (Napa) paved the way for me to have this kind of season,” Muyang told reporters in Filipino after another efficient game with 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field and 13 rebounds to lead Letran over San Sebastian, 79-61, on Tuesday and into its first Final Four since its championship run in 2015.
“If not for coach Jeff and most especially my teammates’ confidence, I wouldn’t be playing like this.”
Muyang played one year at La Salle where he was in the shadows of the likes of a slew of big men in Ben Mbala, Jason Perkins and Prince Rivero.
But it was a different story for Muyang at Letran where he flourished playing the starting role.
“When I got him from the other school, he was down and he didn’t have the confidence,” said Letran head coach Jeff Napa, who pulled strings and used his contacts to acquire Muyang.
“He really prepared hard for this season. He’s a big help to the team because we were able to get an enforcer in the middle and a role player that complements Bong (Quinto) and Toto (Calvo),” Napa added.
