San Beda took the easy way to its twice-to-beat bonus after toying with Arellano University, 90-52, in the NCAA Season 94 men’s basketball tournament Thursday at Filoil Flying V Center.
The Red Lions zoomed to their ninth straight win and improved to a league-best 15-1 record while the eliminated Chiefs languish at the sixth seed with a 5-11 card.
The defending champions were in the mood for a quick win, setting the tone as early as the first quarter by taking a 22-15 lead.
San Beda then amped it up in the second quarter, outscoring the Chiefs 16-8 to take a 38-23 lead heading into the break and never relented.
Despite getting the incentive, Red Lions head coach Boyet Fernandez stressed to his team that they are far from done, with Final Four teams Lyceum and University of Perpetual still on their schedule.
“We just have to be ready, we consider every game as a playoff game,” said Fernandez. “We’re happy that we achieved our goal to get to the top two, we just have to be ready.”
Javee Mocon led the Red Lions with 24 points and 11 rebounds while Robert Bolick had 11 points, five rebounds, and nine assists.
Dariel Bayla put up 12 points and six rebounds for Arellano.
