Recovering June Mar Fajardo just wants to play basketball again

June Mar Fajardo hasn’t played basketball for almost two months after a shin fracture sidelined him since the beginning of the PBA Governors’ Cup.

It hasn’t been trying time for the four-time PBA MVP.

“I hope I’m able to play because it’s just too boring when you’re not doing anything,” said Fajardo in Filipino after San Miguel’s 117-100 win over Phoenix Friday at Mall of Asia Arena.

“It’s still a different sensation when you’re running around and playing.”

As part of his rehabilitation process, Fajardo has been doing biking and swimming and is not allowed to participate in practices with the team yet.

His absence in the PBA’s third conference could also jeopardize his chances for a fifth straight MVP.

Fajardo already has two Best Player of the Conference from the Philippine and Commissioner’s Cups making him a virtual lock for the MVP but he needs to play in at least 70 percent of his team’s games to be eligible for the league’s top individual plum.

The prospect of winning a fifth straight MVP trophy, however, doesn’t entice Fajardo, who just wants to get back to playing with his team.

“I’m just focusing on returning to the game, I just want to play, I want to run on the court because it’s been so long since I did that,” said Fajardo who can become the league’s most decorated player in history if he wins his fifth MVP.

“I just want to return to the normal state of things.”
