Phoenix import Eugene Phelps’ statements toward San Miguel might have struck a chord with the Beermen prior to the two teams’ matchup on Friday in the PBA Governors’ Cup.
Phelps described San Miguel as a “regular team” without four-time MVP June Mar Fajardo.

Well that “regular team” just beat Phelps’ team, 115-100, at Mall of Asia Arena.
“I hope he doesn’t take this too tough because he just lost by 15 to a regular team, I hope he’s okay,” said San Miguel big man Christian Standhardinger with a tinge of sarcasm.
“That can be tough for the mental and psychological well-being of the player so shoutout to him and I hope he’s fine.”
Fajardo has been sidelined since the start of the third conference after suffering a right shin injury and it was up to the rookie Standhardinger to take the role of center for the Beermen.
Standhardinger is averaging stellar numbers of 26.6 points and 11.3 rebounds while filling in for Fajardo.
So far, the Beermen have yet to have a winning record as they remained in eighth place with a 3-4 card.
“I hope June Mar is going to come back soon as soon as possible so we can beat a great team again,” said Standhardinger. “Right now, we’re just a regular team but we still beat them by 15 so that’s good news.”
“I think we over performed today because for all regular standards that was really over our skills, so we went all out today and that was great.”
