As it awaits the next move of the NCAA that could benefit its lost Final Four bid, St. Benilde made sure it got the job done on the court.
The Blazers whipped Jose Rizal University, 84-68, Wednesday for their highest win total in four seasons in the 94th NCAA basketball tournament at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Yankee Haruna and Unique Naboa joined forces in a strong start to the second half as the Blazers unloaded a 32-14 third period to pull away for good.
The Blazers improved to 9-8 with a match against the Letran Knights remaining in their schedule.
But their Final Four hopes will depend on the league’s move to whether or not look into the players of Perpetual Help—Kim Aurin and Edgar Charcos—who allegedly played in another league during their residency year without the NCAA’s permission.
“We’ll just leave it up to them,” said St. Benilde coach TY Tang. “If we get in the Final Four, thank you. If not, still thank you.”
Later, Mapua U ripped Arellano U, 91-78, to end the season at 6-12. The Chiefs fell to 5-12.
