Bacoor, Cebu forge MPBL triumphs

Bacoor gave new coach Leo Isaac a winning start in the MPBL as the Strikers turned back the Rizal Crusaders, 74-63, late Tuesday night even as Cebu picked up a second straight victory for the first time in the Datu Cup at Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo. Gab Banal delivered another all-around performance with 17 points, eight rebounds and eight assists as the Strikers collected their third straight victory despite the sudden resignation of former coach Budds Reyes over the weekend. Isaac had 11 players scoring for the Strikers. Earlier, Will McAloney came up with his best game of the season as the Sharks overcame Valenzuela Idol Cheesedogs, 78-75, to rise to 3-8 in the South division.

Bayron takes halfway lead at Luisita

TARLAC—Jay Bayron shot a six-under 66 and stayed on track for an elusive Philippine Golf Tour crown halfway through the ICTSI Luisita Invitational here Wednesday. Bayron fired five birdies from No. 11 for a 35-31 card and a 13-under 131 aggregate to take a two-stroke lead over Clyde Mondilla, whose bogey-free, record-setting 64 early Tuesday sparked hopes of a strong PGT finish for the reigning but winless Order of Merit champion. But Mondilla hobbled with bogeys on Nos. 17 and 3 and needed to birdie two of the last five to save a 69. Peter Stojanovski stayed in the hunt with a 134 total.
