ANTIPOLO—Ronald Tubid is a man who has won multiple trophies throughout the course of his 15-year career, winning seven titles and bagging a Finals MVP in 2008.
He was also the league’s Mr. Quality Minutes in 2005 and 2006 and Mr. Energy in 2007.
This type of resume gives Tubid a winner’s reputation, so when Columbian suffered a string of nine straight losses in the 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup, he knew just how to motivate his teammates.

“I told my teammates to just be quick every time they’re on the floor,” said Tubid in Filipino after their 100-84 win over Rain or Shine Friday at Ynares Center here. “Be the first one on the 50-50 balls, be aggressive on defense.”
Tubid, who had 16 points and five rebounds, added that his teammates should use the other teams’ tendencies to look them over even before the game starts.
“All the teams, when we’re their opponents, will just list us off,” said Tubid. “It hurts because it seems that we’re not even part of the competition but I told my teammates to just play it through and don’t stop until the final buzzer sounds.”

Tubid, who was traded to Columbian from San Miguel at the start of the season, said it was a wave of relief when they finally got the win.
“This is an awesome feeling, it feels so good to win,” said Tubid. “We lost nine straight and it just feels amazing to finally get one.”
