MANILA, Philippines—La Salle completed a sweep of women’s tennis while Ateneo also remained unbeaten in baseball in the UAAP Season 74 tournaments over the weekend.
Reggie Santiago, the reigning MVP, won the decisive third singles to lift the Lady Archers past the Lady Eagles, 3-2, yesterday at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
Santiago blanked Bea Santos, 6-0, 6-0, after Martina Guba (first singles) and Trudy Amoranto at Kirstie Barraquias (doubles) also delivered victories for the Lady Archers.
In baseball, the Blue Eagles stretched their winning run to four games after thrashing the University of Santo Tomas Tigers, 8-1, at the Rizal Memorial diamond.
The Tigers fell to 2-2 along with National University, which blanked Adamson, 2-0.
In women’s volleyball, Far Eastern U and Adamson downed separate foes to keep their share of third place at 6-4, behind defending champion La Salle (10-0) and Ateneo (7-2).
Rosemarie Vargas hit 27 points as the Lady Tamaraws tripped the Tigresses, 25-23, 20-25, 25-23, 25-23, at the FilOil-Flying V Arena.
The Lady Falcons routed the winless University of the Philippines Lady Maroons, 25-15, 25-9, 25-3, as Pau Soriano scored 15 points.
In men’s football, UST downed Ateneo, 2-0, to claim the solo lead with seven points on a 2-1-0 win-draw-loss record. Other men’s matches at the Ateneo field had La Salle and FEU fighting to a 1-1 draw and UP and University of the East figuring in a scoreless tie.
