Cool Smashers streak to 6th straight triumph, solo lead
Creamline notched its sixth consecutive victory with a 25-23, 25-17, 25-14 triumph over Motolite-Ateneo Sunday night to occupy solo leadership in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Open Conference at Baliwag Star Arena in Bulacan.
The Cool Smashers, now with a 6-1 slate, snapped the Lady Eagles’ three-game win streak that dragged Ateneo to 5-2 and a tie with first-game loser BanKo-Perlas for second place.
Del Palomata drilled in back-to-back points in the endgame as Pocari-Air Force stunned BanKo Perlas, 16-25, 26-24, 18-25, 25-23, 15-13.
Article continues after this advertisementPalomata finished with 10 points for the Lady Warriors, who recovered from a two-game slump and vaulted back into contention with a 4-3 record.
They are now tied with the idle PetroGazz Angels in fourth and fifth places.
In pulling down BanKo, which suffered its second consecutive defeat, Pocari also boosted its morale having been in the lower rung of the standings all conference.
Myla Pablo unloaded 23 points for the Lady Warriors who still packed enough spunk despite committing eight unforced errors in the fifth set.
Jeannete Panaga also shone for the Lady Warriors with 13 points.
BanKo Perlas held a 19-17 lead in the fourth set and was bent on taking the win in four frames until Pablo and the underrated Palomata decided to take matters in their own hands, igniting a 8-4 binge to extend the match.
It could have been a lot easier for the Lady Warriors in the fifth but they gave up five consecutive points to the Perlas Spikers on service and attack errors.
BanKo Perlas failed to take advantage of the opponent’s miscues as its gunners struggled, except for Joy Dacoron who nailed three points in the fifth.
