College of St. Benilde took down semifinalist Letran, 94-81, in a what could be its final game of the NCAA Season 94 men’s basketball tournament Tuesday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Blazers finished the elimination round at 10-8 after winning only four games the previous year.
They’re just one-game behind University of Perpetual Help for the last Final Four slot with their fortunes still up in the air with the league yet to announce its decision on the issue surrounding the eligibility of four Altas players, who allegedly played in other commercial leagues.
CSB coach Ty Tang said he would take whatever the decision may be in stride and added whether his team makes the Final Four or not, he’s pleased with how the Blazers performed during the season.
“As said last game, we wanna end up with a strong season-ender for us and having a first non-losing season for us is already an achievement, 10-8, more wins than losses, I think it’s been a long time. We haven’t really been in this kind of level of the game or competition,” Tang said.
“As of now, I don’t really know what happened inside the ManCom meeting. I’m just waiting for decisions. But again, come what may for us,” he said. “If ever it happens thank you, if [Perpetual Help] goes to play in the Final Four, it’s still a thankful season for us. It’s been a great season actually, of course, some disappointments here and there, we had our shortcomings but it’s a good painful experience for us to learn our lessons for next year.”
