Filipino skeet shooters upended their regional rivals and bagged two medals, including a silver in the team event, in the Southeast Asian Shooting Association Championships in Taipei, Taiwan, recently.
Enrique Leandro Enriquez, Joaquin Miguel Ancheta and London Olympian Paul Brian Rosario topped their Southeast Asian peers but narrowly lost to the hosts in the shootoff for the team gold.
Rosario also clinched bronze in the men’s individual event.
Canada-based Enrique Leandro Enriquez, 26, returned from an 11-year absence to help the squad end a five-year medal drought in the competition.
“We are thankful to Mr. Chavit Singson who rescued the PNSA,” said coach Darius Alexis Hizon, referring to the president of the Philippine National Shooting Association. “It’s still a sweet victory for us, winning two medals.”
The team dedicated its medals to teammate Renzo Suntay who passed away recently.
