B-League: UST cue bets stay unbeaten

MANILA, Philippines – University of Santo Tomas solidified its hold of top spot in the second season of the National Collegiate Billiards League (B-League) with back-to-back victories Sunday at the Star Billiards Center in Quezon City.

The Tigers won for the fifth straight time after sweeping Adamson U, 3-0, and nipping titleholder Lyceum, 2-1.

Cedric Gonzales and Rodlin John Bautista prevailed over Arvee Cabrera and Blair Capillo in their 9-ball and 10-ball matches, respectively, to set the tone for the UST rout against Adamson. Michael Preso and Gerthee Estrella completed the sweep with a win by forfeiture in the doubles.

Gonzales also starred in the win over Lyceum, besting Kenji Bautista, 7-6, in the 9-ball, before RJ Bautista sealed the win with a 7-2 ripping of Robbie Sogueco in 10-ball.

UST’s three other victories in the tournament supported by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, Philip Escudero of Malungai Life Oil and Mandarin Sky Sea Food Restaurant came against Pasig Catholic College (3-0), San Beda (3-0) and Trinity University of Asia (2-1).

Far Eastern U also notched back-to-back victories, toppling University of the East, 2-1, and San Beda, 2-1.
In juniors play, St. Mary’s routed Arellano, 2-1; Claret upset defending champion Xavier, 2-1, and Sto. Niño beat PCCHS, 2-1.
