PBA board awaits Yeng’s new PH 5 pool

Team Philippines’ preparation for the next window of the Fiba World Cup 2019 Asian Qualifiers will start after national coach Yeng Guiao presents his program in a meeting with the PBA Board of Governors next Tuesday.

The Nationals resume their chase for a spot in the 2019 World Cup in China with back-to-back home games at Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay against Kazakhstan on Nov. 30 and versus Iran on Dec. 3.

Guiao will bare his pool of 18 to 20 players during the meeting to be presided by TNT’s Ricky Vargas, who has just been given a one-year extension as PBA board chair.

“Whoever coach Yeng picks for the national team will be allowed to play by the board,” said PBA commissioner Willie Marcial.

The PBA will take a break from Nov. 17 to Dec. 4 to give way to the fifth window of the qualifiers.

“It may be pushed to Nov. 19 if we’re to have a playoff game for the last quarterfinal berth,” said Marcial.

The PBA also takes a breather Wednesday and Friday in observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.

Christian Standhardinger, Paul Lee, Alex Cabagnot, Gabe Norwood, Scottie Thompson, Poy Erram, Ian Sangalang, Marcio Lassiter, Raymond Almazan, Allein Maliksi, Beau Belga and Asi Taulava were part of the team that dropped a 73-81 game to Iran in Tehran on Sept. 13.
