Cleveland to host 2022 NBA All-Star Game

Cleveland will host the 2022 NBA All-Star Game in the midst of the league’s 75th anniversary season, the NBA announced Thursday.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver made the announcement at Quicken Loans Arena, home of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Cavs hosted the All-Star Game in 1997, when the NBA celebrated its 50th anniversary, and in 1981.

“Cleveland is a passionate sports city with a proven track record of hosting large-scale, global events,” Silver said. “We look forward to a weeklong celebration of our game.”

Cavs owner Dan Gilbert said the current renovations underway at the arena had been an important factor in the NBA’s decision.

“The world will get to see the modern Cleveland and all of its diversity, innovation and promise for the future,” he said.

This season’s All Star Game will be held in Charlotte, North Carolina, with Chicago due ot host in 2020 and Indianapolis in 2021.
