Lyceum can breathe a little easier in its stressful finals series against San Beda in the NCAA Season 94 men’s basketball tournament.
The NCAA Management Committee on Thursday decided that it wouldn’t impose any sanctions on Pirates head coach Topex Robinson after the latter’s criticisms on the league following the suspension of CJ Perez in Game 1 of the finals.
Lyceum, without Perez, lost that game 73-60 against the Red Lions and fell 1-0 in the three-game series.
Robinson risked getting banned for the duration of the finals while College of St. Benilde coaches TY Tang and Charles Tiu were also in danger of getting reprimanded as they shared similar views with Lyceum’s coach.
“The ManCom decided to give CSB and Lyceum coaches enough time to finish the remaining finals games,” said Management Committee chairman Frank Gusi.
Perez was suspended in Game 1 after he submitted his application for the PBA Draft without formally informing the NCAA and that resulted in his one-game suspension that just so happened to be the first game of the finals.
Robinson aired his criticisms to the media after the Pirates’ loss while Tiu and Tang took to social media to air their grievances.
Although all three were given passes until the end of Season 94, the ManCom could still slap punishments by Season 95.
“We are putting continuance to the proceedings in the spirit of sportsmanship and with the best interest of the league.”
