Cignal regains footing with five-set victory over Generika-Ayala
Cignal had to dig deep into its inner resolve to hammer out a 26-24, 17-25, 25-22, 20-25, 17-15 victory over Generika-Ayala Saturday for its second win in four matches in the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference at Alonte Stadium in Biñan, Laguna.
“I wanted to help the team get back to winning, that’s why at the start of the match, I said to myself I would dig every ball possible,” said Cignal libero Jheck Dionela in Filipino.
Dionela had 31 excellent digs as the HD Spikers’ bounced back from ego-busting defeats to league heavyweights Foton and F2 Logistics.
Mylene Paat topscored with 28 points as she provided not just scoring muscle but leadership for the HD Spikers.
“I’m happy with the way the team showed composure and fighting spirit,” said the 24-year-old Paat in Filipino after sending the Lifesavers to a 0-3 card.
