Over at the Ateneo field, defending champion Far Eastern U dumped University of the Philippines, 2-0, to stay on top of men’s football as University of Santo Tomas also kept the solo women’s lead after routing Ateneo, 4-0.
In women’s volleyball, Ateneo overwhelmed UE, 25-21, 25-12, 25-12, to improve its record to a second-best 8-2 yesterday at the FilOil-Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Rookie standout Alyssa Valdez hit 17 points and Gretchen Ho and Fille Cainglet combined for 21 for the Lady Eagles, who boosted their bid for a Final Four berth behind unbeaten La Salle (10-0).
UST also drubbed UP, 25-15, 25-15, 25-15, in the other women’s match to join idle Adamson and FEU at third place at 6-4.
In chess, UST grabbed the lead in the men’s division as La Salle stayed on track of its women’s title defense over the weekend at the FEU mini-theater.
The Tigers surged past five-time champion FEU following a 2-1.5 triumph over National University that gave them a total score of 11.5 points.
Coming off an upset loss to UP, the Tamaraws recovered with a 3-1 rout of UE, yet still stayed at second with the Maroons at 11 points.
