Folayang tries to reclaim belt

Eduard Folayang will re-enter this week the confines of the venue where he lost his ONE Championship lightweight belt.

Hovering above Folayang is the pressure to deliver before a partisan crowd. As if that’s not enough to worry about, he also stakes what has been an impeccable run by Team Lakay this year.

Folayang’s crew now has three champions: strawweight Joshua Pacio, flyweight Geje Eustaquio, and bantamweight Kevin Belingon.

“We’ve been in this business for a long time,” the 33-year-old Folayang said during an open workout for the “Conquest of Champions” at Victoria Sports in Quezon City on Friday.

“I think I really need to adjust myself,” added Folayang, who will clash with Singapore’s Amir Khan at Mall of Asia Arena this Friday. “The more you allow pressure to creep in, the more you’re unable to give your best.”

Folayang will share the main event with another Philippine bet in Brandon Vera who will defend the heavyweight title against Mauro Cerilli.

Honorio Banario, who also fights out of Team Lakay, joins Bangkok-based Filipino Rocky Bactol in the preliminaries.
