The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and the Department of Education (DepEd) recently forged a partnership to finally build a genuine grassroots development program.

PSC Chair Butch Ramirez said both government organizations will work closely with local government units to unify their efforts in developing and discovering young talents and school-based athletes.

“This is a milestone development, for we believe without DepEd, there will be no grassroots sports program,” said Ramirez.

Education Secretary Leonor Briones and Ramirez initiated the collaboration during the Philippine National Games in Cebu in May. The deal officially pushed through in the recent two-day National Sports Planning Workshop in Davao.

DepEd organizes the annual Palarong Pambansa where over 10,000 athletes in the elementary and high school levels compete.
