PH’s Suarez thru to 2nd round

Justin Suarez touched off the local campaign after outlasting Hon Chun Lee of Hong Kong, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, on Tuesday in the Phinma-PSC International Junior Tennis Championships Week 2 at Manila Polo Club in Makati. The 18-year-old Suarez, who made the doubles semifinals last year along with Arthur Craig Pantino, arranged a second-round duel against sixth seed Lo Yi-jui of Chinese Taipei, a 6-1, 6-4 winner over Switzerland’s Jean Marc Malkowski. Nine other Filipinos are competing in the main draw of the tournament sponsored by Philippine Tennis Association, Philippine Sports Commission, Phinma and Tecnifibre.

PSC, GAB heads in inaugural TOPS Usapang Sports

The first-ever “Usapang Sports” by the Tabloid Organization in Philippine Sports (TOPS) will be held this Thursday with Philippine Sports Commission Chair William “Butch” Ramirez and Games and Amusement Board (GAB) chief Abraham “Baham” Mitra as guests. The weekly sports forum starts 10 a.m. at the National Press Club building along Magallanes Drive in Intramuros, Manila. Ramirez will discuss the PSC’s various activities held this year as well as its plans for 2019. TOPS is headed by People’s Tonight Sports editor Ed Andaya.
