Fairtex wins, Suzuki delivers fireworks in ONE Super Series in Manila
Thailand’s Saemapetch Fairtex beat Russia’s Alaverdi Ramazanov via unanimous decision in their muay thai bantamweight clash, the last of the ONE Super Series bouts in the ONE: Conquest of Champions Friday at Mall of Asia Arena.
Both were aggressive throughout the match but it was Fairtex who got the judges’ nods through his more methodical approach.
Article continues after this advertisementIn the battle of undefeated fighters, the United States’ James Nakashima took a unanimous decision win over Russia’s Raimond Magomedaliev in their welterweight bout.
Nakashima was the more methodical aggressor during the fight and he had his moments in both striking and in the ground.
Although Magomedaliev got hold of Nakashima’s right foot late in the fight, the American was able to wiggle away and assume the dominant position once more.
Article continues after this advertisementThe win preserved Nakashima’s undefeated streak as he improved to a perfect 10-0 record while stopping Magomedaliev’s own streak at five.
Japan’s Hiroaki Suzuki scored an impressive unanimous decision win over Lithuania’s Deividas Danyla in the bantamweight division of the ONE Super Series kickboxing event.
In a match that delivered absolute fireworks, it was the Japanese that emerged victorious through sheer aggressiveness and pinpoint attacking.
Meanwhile, Samy Sana of France beat Italy’s Armen Petrosyan via unanimous decision in the other ONE Super Series kickboxing clash.
Both fighters were aggressive to start the fight with Petrosyan the first to dictate the tempo but Sana was able to change the tide in the last two minutes of the opening round.
With Petrosyan unable to sustain his aggression, Sana pounced on his gassed opponent and controlled the match effectively in the second round.
Brazil’s Alexandre Machado earned his second win in three fights after stopping Japan’s Hideki Sekine 1:44 into the second round of their heavyweight bout.
Sekine (7-3), who fought ONE World heavyweight champion Brandon Vera in 2016, had the early control in the fight after his booming suplex on Machado (9-3).
The Brazilian, however, recovered in the second round and stuffed any further takedown attempts from Sekine and used his striking capabilities to his advantage.
Machado then peppered Sekine with punches prompting the referee to stop the fight.
China’s Han Zi Hao scored a technical knockout win over Malaysia’s Azwan Che Wil 2:52 into the first round of their Muay Thai Super Series bantamweight fight.
Indonesia’s Rudy Agustian (2-0) opened up the card with a unanimous decision win over Bangladesh’s Asraful Islam (0-2) in the flyweight division.
