Once a pipe dream, the Philippine Sports Training Center (PSTC) has moved closer to reality.
Sen. Sonny Angara on Thursday said the bicameral conference committee approved the bill that would give rise to an ultramodern national sports training center for Filipino athletes.
“It will create more Olympians, produce future Hall of Famers and, most importantly, empower the Filipino to win,’’ said Angara, the bill’s principal author and sponsor of the planned sports facility.
Next stop for the reconciled bill is its ratification in both Senate and House of Representatives before President Duterte signs it into law.
“The PSTC will offer a beacon of hope for Filipino athletes, sports enthusiasts, fanatics and the entire nation hungry for that elusive Olympic gold,’’ said Angara, vice chair of the Senate committee on sports.
Philippine Sports Commission chair Butch Ramirez has welcomed the positive development, saying the new training center will give athletes better facilities.
