Against a throng of Thais and a pesky American, a Filipino stood tall at the Queen’s Cup in Thailand.
Miguel Tabuena birdied four of his last six holes to dust off the challenge of the US’ Johannes Veerman and local bet Jazz Jattewanond to end a three-year slump on the Asian Tour.
With Veerman and Jazz showing no signs of surrendering their bids, Tabuena unloaded a barrage of birdies on Nos. 13, 14, 16 and 17 en route to a three-shot victory at Legacy Golf Club in Bangkok.
Tabuena capped one of his best performances yet as a pro with a four-under-par 66 that followed earlier rounds of 65, 63 and 66 for a 20-under 260 aggregate.
Veerman finished second with a similar 66 for 263 and Jazz wound up as the best Thai finisher with his 68-264.
Tabuena, who ruled the Philippine Open at Luisita in 2015, pocketed $90,000 (about P4.7 million).
