Jeson Patrombon emerged as the new men’s champion after a protracted final battle even as Marian Jade Capadocia picked up her sixth women’s title with ease in the Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) tennis championships on Sunday.
The 25-year-old national team stalwart needed five sets and almost four hours to wrest the title from 2017 champion Bryan Otico, 7-6 (4), 0-6, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1, for his first PCA title.
Earlier, Capadocia defeated Shaira Rivera, 6-4, 6-3, to become the winningest women’s player in the tournament.
National team star Francis Casey Alcantara and junior star Nio Tria combined forces to down Johnny Arcilla and Ronard Joven, 7-6 (4), 5-7 (10-8) in the men’s doubles final.
Aileen Rogan and Bambi Zoleta also bested Patrimonio sisters Cristine and Clarice, 2-6, 6-4 (10-8), to claim the women’s doubles crown.
