The Denver Nuggets signed veteran guard Nick Young on Monday after being granted an exemption following an escalating injury crisis.

Young, who played for the Golden State Warriors last season during their championship-winning campaign, had been a free agent since the offseason.

Young played in 80 games for the Warriors last season, averaging 7.3 points and 1.6 rebounds per game on his way to the NBA Finals crown.

Over his 11-year career, Young has averaged 11.4 points, two rebounds and one assist per game.

Young’s arrival was made possible after Brandon Goodwin was waived. Goodwin was only signed by Denver on November 29 and did not appear in a single game for the Nuggets.

The Nuggets are currently third in the Western Conference standings with 17 wins and nine defeats, trailing Golden State and the Oklahoma City Thunder.
