The Philippines continued its solid showing in the 19th ASEAN University Games men’s volleyball tournament, as the Filipino represented by reigning UAAP men’s champion National University topped Indonesia, 25-14, 25-23, 25-13, to make it to the gold medal round Thursday in Naypyitaw, Myanmar.
Except for a close second set, the Philippines was dominant in the semifinals match to extend its undefeated run to three games and assure itself of a podium finish.
The Filipinos surpassed their the bronze medal achievement two years ago in the biennial meet for the student-athletes in the region.
Up next for the Philippines is a rematch with defending champion Thailand, which fashioned out a 25-19, 25-20, 25-17 victory over Myanmar in the other semis duel on Friday.
The Filipinos pulled off a shocking 30-28, 25-23, 25-19 win over the Thais, in last Sunday’s opener.
Like the Philippines, Thailand is also 3-0 in the tournament.
