MANILA, Philippines—Columbian has had its eye on CJ Perez declaring him as the team’s No.1 overall pick in the PBA Draft as early as the end of October.

Dyip head coach Johnedel Cardel said back in October 30 that the 25-year-old Perez is a younger version of Phoenix superstar Calvin Abueva.

“CJ’s an energy guy at our team needs someone like him,” said Cardel. “Since his first years at San Sebastian he was already playing like Abueva who has everything. His attitude is also a plus.”

Columbian already has a promising backcourt in Rashawn McCarthy and Jerramy King.

King was the team’s best scoring local during the Governors’ Cup putting up 20.2 points per game while McCarthy norms 13.6 points per game.

The Dyip, however, haven’t fared well in the season finishing with a total record of 6-27 the whole season.

“He has a great work ethic, he’s a team player, and those are the qualities I’m looking for,” said Cardel, whose team also owns the 11th pick in the first round. “He’ll be a great addition to the team.”

“He can create for his teammates, give energy to the team, and he can give the team victories.”
