Paul Zamar, whose long and equally arduous journey to the PBA became one of the season’s feel-good stories last season, opens another chapter in his hoops career.
Zamar is set to find a new home with the San Miguel Beer after his stint with the Blackwater Elite, sources have told the Inquirer.
The crafty guard who has made pro tours overseas—including a stellar stint in Asean Basketball League, will be sent to Beermen for second round draft picks in 2021 and 2022.
Zamar’s shipment is among the multiple transactions the Elite will be making in the offseason.
Shortly after the 2018 PBA Draft, Blackwater star big man Poy Erram was traded to NLEX’s first-round selections Paul Desiderio and Abu Tratter.
Zamar is expected to buy time for the Beermen to develop new playmakers as they prepare for the eventual slow-down of superstar guards Alex Cabagnot, 35, and Chris Ross, 33.
Left unsigned in the 2012 rookie draft, Zamar helped Thai team Mono Vampire push Alab Pilipinas to the limit in last year’s ABL Finals.
San Miguel Beer will only be Zamar’s second PBA team at 31 years old.
