PSSBC record: Bullpups bury UL five by 90 points

IronCon Builders owner Jimi Lim, Rain or Shine team manager Edison Oribiana and two-time PBA MVP James Yap (sixth to eight from left) join players from National U and University of Luzon-Dagupan at the PSSBC-ROS Cup on Sunday at SGS gym in Quezon City.

National University showed its might with a 90-point demolition of University of Luzon while comebacking Xavier School eliminated reigning NCAA titlist Mapua  in the Philippine Secondary Schools Basketball Championship (PSSBC) Rain or Shine Cup on Sunday at SGS gym in Quezon City.

The Bullpups overpowered the Golden Doves of Dagupan City, 124-34, in Group A action, a follow-up to their 78-62 stunner over reigning UAAP titlist Ateneo Eaglets the day before.

And the Bullpups did it without Batang Gilas’ 6-foot-7 center Carl Tamayo who was allowed to rest following his stellar performance against Ateneo’s Kai Sotto.

With the rest of the team’s stars being used sparingly, Harold Alarcon and Renzo Abiera took the opportunity to shine, scoring 22 points each in leading the Bullpups to the biggest winning margin since the PSSBC was established seven years ago by eight Filipino-Chinese businessmen.
