MANILA, Philippines—CJ Perez was immediately given the spoils of his newfound distinction four days after Columbian tapped him as the top overall pick of the 2018 PBA Rookie Draft.

Perez on Thursday signed the maximum rookie contract good for three years.

Columbian head coach Johnedel Cardel has been big on Perez’ skills as far back as late October.

Perez was a one-time NCAA MVP and led Lyceum to back-to-back finals appearances including an 18-0 elimination round sweep in Season 93.

“CJ is an energy guy and our team needs someone like him,” said Cardel. “He has a great attitude and work ethic. He’s also a great team player.”

Perez’ contract details, however, were not shared publicly.

Robert Bolick, the third overall pick, also signed his rookie contract with NorthPort that stretches for two years.
