PSC secures LGU aid in grassroots programs

The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) will continue finding raw talents in the Batang Pinoy to supply the national team with future medalists.

Chair Butch Ramirez announced that the sports agency has forged a partnership with Davao del Norte, Isabela and Iloilo to host the Mindanao, Luzon and Visayas qualifying legs of the 2019 Batang Pinoy Games.

“We are sealing this partnership with our host LGUs (local government units) to ensure mutual cooperation and a successful staging of the Batang Pinoy,” said Ramirez.

The BP Games is the country’s source of athletes 15 years old and younger, where the best will be tapped to don the national colors in overseas meets such as the Children of Asia Games and Youth Olympic Games. They will eventually graduate into more challenging events like the Southeast Asian Games, Asian Games and even the Olympics.

Ramirez will seal the hosting deal with Davao del Norte Gov. Antonio del Rosario, Ilagan City Mayor Evelyn Diaz, Iloilo City Mayor Jose Espinosa III and Iloilo Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. on Friday at Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.

This year’s BP Games will kick off on Feb. 2 to 9 in Tagum City, Davao del Norte.
