Pucay starts strong in Myanmar Open; Tabuena in danger
RANGOON—Mars Pucay fired a solid 4-under-par 68 Thursday to be four strokes off the opening-round pace in the Zaykabar Myanmar Open presented by Air Bagan at the Royal Mingalardon Golf and Country Club.
The 41-year-old Pucay, ranked 49th last year in the Asian Order of Merit, shot four birdies in his nines of 34-34 to lead the small Filipino group playing in the opening leg of this year’s Tour.
Angelo Que and Jay Bayron shot identical 70s, Frankie Miñoza had a 71 and Jonel Ababa matched par 72. A 74 put sophomore pro Miguel Tabuena in danger of missing the halfway cut.
Ben Fox of the United States and Australians Scott Hend and Wade Ormsby shared the lead with 64s.
