Fil-am guard Joshua Munzon top pick in 2019 PBA D-League draft

AMA Online Education on Tuesday selected Fil-American guard Joshua Munzon as the top overall pick in the 2019 PBA D-League Draft held at the PBA Office in Libis.

The Titans hope the 6-foot-4 Munzon will finally help turn their fortunes around after finishing at the bottom of the standings last season.

Munzon made a name for himself in the Asean Basketball League while playing for the Westports Malaysia Dragons.

Marinerong Pilipino, meanwhile, made La Salle standout Santi Santillan as the second overall pick.

Another UAAP star in Adamson’s Sean Manganti went to Che’lu Bar & Grill while National University slotman Troy Rike was taken by Wangs Basketball also in the first round.

Aside from Manganti, Che’lu also picked University of the Philippines’ Juan Gomez Di Liaño and Far Eastern University’s Jasper Parker in the later rounds.

After drafting Munzon, the Titans then, nabbed Kib Montalbo to begin the second round.

“We’re happy because we got the players whom we targeted,” said AMA assistant coach Edwin Ancheta in Filipino.

A total of 153 players declared for the D-League Draft and 61 of them ended up getting chosen. The draft lasted for 20 rounds with Mark Andales being the last pick by Trinity University of Asia.

The 2019 PBA D-League Season, which tips off on February 14, will feature a league record 20 teams, 15 of which are school-based.

UAAP champions Ateneo Blue Eagles and NCAA kings San Beda Red Lions are among the participating squads.
