PSI gets full Fina backing

For the nth time, the powers that be in aquatic sports recognized the leadership of Philippine Swimming Inc. (PSI) president Lani Velasco.

Both the International Swimming Federation (Fina) and Asia Swimming Federation (AASF) have reiterated their full backing for the current PSI board of trustees led by Velasco.

“I am forwarding the attached e-mail from Fina, acknowledging the Philippine Swimming Inc.’s election on 17th February 2018,” stated AASF secretary general Taha Suleiman Al Kishry in his letter to Velasco.

“In this respect, we hereby put on record that AASF and Fina only recognize the duly elected board of directors headed by Ms. Lailani Velasco (president) and Ms. Reina Rose Suarez (secretary general),” added Al Kishry.

In a separate e-mailed communication to Al Kishry, Fina executive director Cornel Marculescu affirmed the stand of the AASF, in acknowledging Velasco’s election as the country’s swimming chief.

Velasco again announced that the national tryouts for the coming Southeast Asian Games is open provided that PH team aspirants register with the PSI.

“PSI is only complying with Fina rules and regulations,” said Velasco.
