Phoenix guard LA Revilla found an added source of inspiration to make an an impact in the Fuel Masters’ win over the Columbian Dyip Wednesday night.
Revilla, the former De La Salle star, played one his best games in a while for Phoenix with 12 points, four rebounds, seven assists and one steal with zero turnovers in close to 28 minutes off the bench.
His all-around performance came just three days after proposing to longtime girlfriend and Philippine volleyball star Denden Lazaro.
“Dagdag inspiration oo kasi gagastos ako after one year eh so kailangan kumita,” Revilla said with a chuckle.
(It’s added inspiration because after one year we’re going to get married and that’s a lot of expenses so I need to earn money.)
Lazaro, as she often does, was in attendance at Smart Araneta Coliseum to show her support to her fiancé.
The 29-year-old Revilla helped Phoenix improve to a franchise-best start at 3-0.
“Sana magtuluy-tuloy. Hindi naman namin mapa-promise na magiging 11-0 kami, hindi naman yon ang goal namin. As much as possible, one game at a time pa rin,” he said. “Last conference nga second nga kami pero natalo naman kami sa twice-to-beat so the standings doesn’t really matter. I think the growth of the team yung pinakaimportante.”
(Hopefully, we continue to win. But we can’t promise that we’re going to go 11-0. That’s not our goal. As much as possible, we take it one game at a time. Last conference we were second but we still lost our twice-to-beat so the standings don’t really matter. I think the most important thing is the growth of the team.)
