MANILA, Philippines—Honorio Banario suffered a disappointing technical knockout loss after falling to Lowen Tynanes in the first round of their bout in the ONE Lightweight World Grand Prix in the ONE: Hero’s Ascent card Friday at Mall of Asia Arena.
Tynanes (10-0) had complete control of the fight in all areas and eventually got Banario pinned down in the final minute and that was when the undefeated American began to show devastating offense.
The moment Banario gave up his back, Tynanas started connecting with brutal left hands prompting referee Yuji Shimada to stop the fight 4:46 into the fight.
“I’m happy to be back especially here in Manila, you guys are crazy,” said Tynanes who took an almost three-year break after his win over Koji Ando in April of 2016.
Tynanes already fought in the Philippines back in December of 2012 taking a first round TKO win against Banario’s Team Lakay stablemate Eduard Folayang.
Despite brutalizing Banario (14-8), Tynanes earned the crowd’s admiration with his show of support for the former ONE World featherweight champion.
“It was an honor to share the cage with him [Banario]. Your whole team, they’re all warriors and I was kind of sad that I was challenging him because I’m a fan.”
