Mighty-PH nips Magnolia behind late Odom triple

Lamar Odom is still far from where he wants to be as he makes his return to basketball after a long hiatus.

On Tuesday, Odom showed a glimpse of what he could still do despite his age and lack of basketball activity for the past five years.

The two-time NBA champion with the Los Angeles Lakers buried the game-winning three-pointer to lift Mighty Sports-Philippines over PBA Governors’ Cup champion powerhouse Magnolia, 98-97, in a tune-up game at Ronac Art Center in San Juan.

The 39-year-old Odom, who last played for Spanish club Saski Baskonia in 2014, nailed the clutch triple that also gave Mighty Sports its first lead of the game, 98-96, with 44 seconds left.

His teammates went berserk after the big basket but Odom, who played 14 seasons in the NBA, just shrugged it off.

“Nah, I was wide open,” said Odom, finished with seven points. “It was at the right time I guess.”

Mighty leaves for Dubai on Thursday and will plunge into action less than 24 hours later to begin its campaign in the Dubai International Basketball Championship.

Rodney Brondial and Ian Sangalang scored 15 and 12 points, respectively, for the Hotshots who will debut in the Philippine Cup this Sunday against TNT. —INQUIRER.NET
