DUBAI, United Arab Emirates—Mighty Sports-Philippines hammered out a dominant 87-58 victory over American University in Dubai on Friday night in the Dubai International Basketball Championships at Al Ahli Club gymnasium here.
In front of Filipino overseas workers who filled the arena and cheered their hearts out, Mighty Sports roared to a strong start despite the struggles of former LA Lakers star Lamar Odom.
Odom made just two of his 10 attempts for the night but got a lot of support from his teammates in the victory.
Justin Brownlee came off the bench and led the attack with 17 points highlighted by three triples. Big man Randolph Morris showcased uncanny playmaking ability with a game-high four assists aside from 14 points and six rebounds.
“We played a good game, but I don’t think this is the real competition. This is probably the weakest team in the whole tournament,” said Mighty Sports coach Charles Tiu, stressing that the opposing squad was made up of collegiate players.
