Marcial scores ko in Prague

Eumir Felix Marcial once again allowed his fists do the talking.

The reticent Zamboanga native, known for his sensational knockout victories in the past two Southeast Asian Games, stopped his opponent cold as the Europe vs Asia Boxing Tournament ended in an 8-8 draw Saturday night in Czech Republic.

The 23-year-old Marcial said he’s not yet in peak form, but he was in solid enough shape to knock out hometown bet Milos Bartil in the third round of their middleweight clash (75 kilograms).

Marcial floored Bartil twice in the opening round. Come the third, he continued to rain down heavy combinations, compelling referee Tomas Smid to stop the fight held at Prague Hilton Hotel.

Marcial was awarded a trophy made of crystal and glass. But more importantly, he earned another stripe on his young career which launched off when he won the Aiba Youth World Championships in 2011.

“He will still need to have more conditioning and sparring but he will get there because he’s hardworking,” said coach Ronald Chavez at the end of the intercontinental meet.
