Paeng, Calma, Codiñera head AdU honor roll

MANILA, Philippines—Adamson University pays tribute to athletes and coaches who brought honors to the school and country in a ceremony at 2 p.m. Monday at the Adamson Theater in Manila.

Ten sports heroes, led by bowler Hall of Famer Paeng Nepomuceno, cager Hector Calma and baseball great Filomeno “Boy” Codiñera, will be enshrined in Adamson’s Athletes Hall of Fame, according to athletics directress Malou Isip.

Isip said the ceremony is part of Adamson’s 80th Year Anniversary celebration.

Former basketball players Kenneth Duremdes, Marlou Aquino, Eddie Laure, Gherome Ejercito and Emelia Vega; softball coach Ana Maria Santiago and track and field ace Djundi Binas will also be feted.

Nepomuceno is a six-time world bowling champion and winner of four Bowling World Cups, while Calma and Duremdes are members of the PBA’s 25 Greatest Players.

Although not an Adamson alumnus, Codiñera guided the school’s baseball and softball squads to at least a dozen UAAP and national titles. He was also a member of the Philippine teams that finished third in the 1966 World Amateur Baseball Championship and fourth in the 1968 World Men’s Softball Championship.
