Justin Brownlee, Juan Gomez de Liaño star as Mighty Sports earns semis berth
MANILA, Philippines—Mighty advanced to the semifinals after turning back Iraqi club Al Nift Oil in the 30th Dubai International Basketball Championship Friday (Manila time) at Al Ahli Club.
Justin Brownlee led Mighty Sports with 26 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists playing through the pain of a swollen left knee he suffered in the team’s 85-81 win over Al Wahda on Tuesday.
Article continues after this advertisementIt was Juan Gomez de Liaño and Randolf Morris who did the early damage for Mighty putting up 10 points apiece to lead the club to a 29-18 lead after the first quarter.
Jeremiah Gray, Brownlee, and Roosevelt Adams then hit their shots in the second quarter to give Mighty Sports a 41-20 lead midway through the period.
Mighty Sports will now face Lebanese team Al Riyadi, the no.2 team in Group A.
The Philippine club swept Group B 4-0 to advance to the knockout stages.
