Ravena graces CongCup opening

04:57 AM February 18, 2019

Before flying to Qatar and vying for a slot in the Philippine team, Ateneo’s Thirdy Ravena graced the kickoff rites of the 3rd Albay Second District Inter-Barangay Congressional Cup (CongCup) 2019 in Legazpi City last weekend.

The league involves 356 basketball teams and about 7,000 players, trainers and coaches, an overwhelming participation that makes CongCup the largest barangay-based basketball tournament in the country.

Participants and guest filled the Ibalong Centrum for Recreation with Albay 2nd District Rep. Joey Sarte Salceda also in attendance.
The league started in 2017 with 161 teams involving 1,930 players and some 320 coaches. The games are played in various venues around the province’s second district. It has four divisions—Junior (143 teams), Junior Team B (29), Senior (36); and Senior Team B (48).
Ravena was joined by Ricci Rivero, who is set to suit up for University of the Philippines this season. The duo delivered inspirational talks and mingled with the players.
