Navotas nears playoff berth

Jai Reyes exploded for a career-best 33 points as Navotas pulled the rug from under Manila, 96-92, to close in on a playoff spot in the North division of the MPBL Datu Cup at San Andres Sports Complex.

The former Ateneo star, who transferred from Laguna early in the season, hit seven triples before wrapping up the victory with two free throws with 12 seconds remaining as the Clutch secured their 11th win in 23 games for sixth spot.

Navotas’ victory also formally knocked Mandaluyong out of playoff contention as the El Tigre absorbed a 60-76 defeat to the San Juan Knights in the first game.

The Knights leaned on John Wilson’s all-around performance of 16 points, eight rebounds and three steals to whip a Mandaluyong squad that has shown little fight after a 5-0 start. —CEDELF P. TUPAS
