Clemente pockets 4th gold, eyes 5th title via 100 IM finale

Gulliver Clive Clemente is now just one gold from accomplishing a whopping target he set for himself in the Visayas leg of the 2019 Philippine National Youth Games-Batang Pinoy.

The 14-year-old from Antique added the boys’ 200-meter breaststroke gold to his collection after ruling the race in 37.46 seconds. It was Clemente’s fourth gold in the Visayas qualifiers after asserting his mastery in the 400m individual medley, 50m breast and 200m IM earlier.

“I’m one gold away from my target,” said the eighth grader from Antique National School in Filipino. “I’ll just stay focused and get it done.”

Clemente entered the tournament setting his sights on five golds, and he can achieve that feat in the 100m IM on Thursday at Iloilo Sports Complex.

Whatever happens, though, Clemente will be a force to reckon with in the national finals of the event, although he hasn’t thought that far ahead just yet.

“I’m not yet thinking about the national finals but I’m motivated to improve my clockings in the next few months,” said Clemente, who already made it to the national championships in October either in Ormoc or Tagbilaran City.
