Defending champion Canlubang did its work in pooling 140 points at Club Filipino de Cebu before wresting the PAL Senior Interclub lead later on Thursday when Luisita’s top second round scorer was disqualified for signing the wrong scorecard.
Abe Rosal and Damasus Wong fired six-over-par 78s worth 46 points and Zaldy Villa added 44 for the Sugar Barons, who will take a 278 aggregate into Friday’s pivotal third round, also at Club Filipino, for a two-point lead over bitter rival Luisita.
The Luisitans stepped off the course holding a seven-point lead, but the 52 points that Benjie Sumulong scored was thrown away after it was determined that he entered a wrong score in one hole in the front nine.
Instead, the Luisitans counted the 50 of Rodel Mangulabnan and the 45 and 43, respectively, of Demy Saclot and Rafy Garcia for 138, with Cebu Country Club, the first round leader, sputtering to a 131 to be five points behind.
Cebu CC was led by the 46 points of Jufil Sato, with Nelson Yuvallos shooting 43 and either 42s of Ramontito Garcia and Lorenzo Alaan counting.
