Phoenix has been on an absolute tear in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup.
The Fuel Masters formalized their entry into the quarterfinals on Friday and they had Calvin Abueva to thank in large part.
Abueva isn’t called “The Beast” for nothing and his last two games the past week show why after leading the Fuel Masters over NorthPort and Alaska to earn the Cignal-PBA Press Corps Player of the Week honor.
In his last two games, the ferocious forward averaged a double-double with 17.5 points and 11.5 rebounds as Phoenix took solo first place in the standings with a 7-1 record.
The 31-year-old Abueva had his way against his former team Alaska, posting 21 points, 16 rebounds and a block for a 94-80 win last Friday just two days after putting up 14 points, seven rebounds and two assists to help his side escape NorthPort, 98-97.
Abueva and the rest of the Fuel Masters hope to sustain their form on Wednesday against the Magnolia Hotshots.
