Two days removed from becoming world No. 1, South Korea’s Sung Hyun-park struts her stuff on Philippine shores by taking part—and being the heavy favorite—in the $100,000 The Country Club Ladies Invitational at wind-swept The Country Club in Laguna.
Coming off a come-from-behind victory in Singapore that unseated Thai Ariya Jutunagarn as the top player in the world, Park will definitely be the player to beat—and the big fish to catch—in the 54-hole championship that will also feature reigning Asian Games double gold medal winner Yuka Saso.
Saso and Park will be in an interesting three-some that will also have Dottie Ardina, an LPGA campaigner, in the 11:40 a.m. group.
Park is playing in this tournament as part of her commitment to Solaire Resorts and Casino, which is also owned by golf patron and Philippine Golf Tour benefactor Ricky Razon.
It is not every year that a world No. 1 comes to play in a local tournament and it will be interesting to see how she handles the TCC layout, which was renovated a couple of years ago.
