MANILA, Philippines – The University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers maintained its perfect record in the 2019 PBA D-League Aspirants Cup after preying on Cignal-Ateneo, 112-98 Thursday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
The Growling Tigers charged to a 3-0 win-loss record while the Blue Eagles dropped to second spot with a 2-1 card.
Mark Nonoy, who has see action in the collegiate ranks, led UST’s charge with 23 points, six rebounds, three assists, and one steal, while Rhenz Abando sniped away with 21 points, anchored on 6-of-9 three pointers. He also finished with a steal and a shot block.
Big man Soulemane Chabi Yo muscled his way inside with 20 points and nine rebounds for the Growling Tigers.
“Our mindset for this game was to see where we are right now,” said UST head coach Aldin Ayo.
“Ateneo is one of the best collegiate teams in our country so we want to measure ourselves on how we can play against them.”
Gian Mamuyac had 18 points to lead the Blue Eagles who played without center Angelo Kouame and head coach Tab Baldwin. / gsg
